Calling South Wales Music Fans
It's not too late to get involved and tell your story
Were you part of the Newport rock/punk/alt scene between 1970 and 2010?
Perhaps you saw your favourite band debut in LePub, or maybe you met your musical hero at the Kensington Club?
If so, Newport Rock Collecting – Winding Snake Productions’ National Lottery Heritage Fund funded social history project – is for YOU!
There are three main parts to the project. The first is the exhibition at the Newport Museum & Art Gallery. The second part is an audio archive of gig memories to be housed at the Sound and Screen Archive at the National Library of Wales; and finally a series of education and community engagement activities in Newport throughout the duration of the project and exhibition.
We’re looking for people who were going to gigs in Newport in the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s to take part in our latest exciting project. We want to hear your stories and learn about your experiences throughout this extensive and exciting period.
Working with Newport Museum & Art Gallery we will build a collection of Newport’s rock/punk/alt past, featuring your collection of music memorabilia, anything from ticket stubs, set-lists, band t-shirts, fanzines, to costumes and instruments. Now’s the time to share the treasures of your memory boxes with the world!
